A Circle of Support: Counseling for friends of James Crump at UAA Thursday evening

UAA’s Student Health & Counseling Center will offer grief counseling and information on resources for friends of James Crump and others affected by his sudden and tragic death at Pride last Saturday. Please be sure also to check other resources for psychological and spiritual support about which we posted yesterday.

James CrumpA Circle of Support

Remembering and coping is painful. We can help the friends of James Crump and those who have been affected in any way by the tragic events of this past weekend.

In addition to the wonderful event that the UAA Psychology Services Center is doing Saturday, the Health and Counseling Center and Dean of Students office at UAA will be hosting/sponsoring an event also this Thursday.

The head of the Student Health and Counseling Center will be there along with a counselor. They will have resources regarding coping with grief as well as information for further resources within the community. There will be people from the LGBT community there to help organize and run the event.

The UAA community and the LGBT community want to ensure that support is there for those who need it and that they the have the knowledge of where to go to find the support.

If you have any further questions contact Amber DoAll LaChores Sawyer.

Update: Amber reports, “Was just contacted by UAA about the event tomorrow regarding the death of James Crump and was in awe of the response they have received. The event will now be in the Student Union South Cafeteria as the previously reserved space does not seem adequate.” The event was originally schedule for The Den. The South Cafeteria is in the same building, so no change in direction needed really. UAA is really coming through for our community!

  • Date/time: Thursday, June 30, 5:30 to 8:30 PM
  • Location: South Cafeteria, UAA Student Union, University of Alaska Anchorage campus, 3211 Providence Drive (see the building labeled SU on the UAA campus map

  • Further information: See the Facebook event page.
